S. Raekwon, born Steven Raekwon Reynolds on July 10, 1995, hails from New York City via Buffalo, NY. He's a talented singer, songwriter, and producer. This project sees him documenting a life influenced and captivated by the power of difference. Reynolds' journey started as a biracial Black boy in working - class Buffalo. Raised by a white mother who loved musical theatre and piano, his isolation allowed him to channel his inner self into unique music.
After graduating from Case Western Reserve University, he moved to NYC's East Village. In 2018, he wrote and recorded his first S. Raekwon demos. His 2020 debut single was released via Saddle Creek’s Document Series.
'Where I'm at Now' was recorded in NYC and during a six - month stay at his girlfriend’s parents’ home in Edwardsville, IL during the pandemic. It's an album he made for himself, with newfound clarity. Amidst the chaos of two working years, he connected with his roots. Edwardsville is where his father went to college and close to where most of his Black family lives. He also protested against police violence and reconnected with his family.
Completely self - produced and self - recorded (except for drums on two songs), the music combines the energy of the East Village and the peace of Edwardsville. It draws from R&B, rock, folk, and pop, creating a genre - less masterpiece that shines in both quiet and sweeping moments.
